January Trips

Two Places That Make Me Happy

January has a way of making us crave calm. After the rush of December, I always find myself drawn to places that feel grounded, thoughtful and beautifully ordered – spaces that breathe. This month, two of my favourite places captured that feeling perfectly: The Newt in Somerset and Daylesford Organic in the Cotswolds.

They may be destinations, but they feel more like experiences in intentional living. And if you’re someone who loves organisation, straight lines, and that deeply satisfying sense of “everything in its place”, these places will speak to you.

The Newt in Somerset

The Newt is more than a hotel. It’s a masterclass in how thoughtful design can shape the way we feel.

From the moment you arrive, everything feels deliberate. The gardens are immaculately structured, the interiors calm and restrained, and every space flows with purpose.

It reminds me of what we try to create at Shelf Life:
Spaces that feel peaceful because they’re organised.
Rooms that work with you, not against you.

At The Newt, nothing is cluttered, nothing feels rushed. Each shelf, drawer, surface and space has been considered. It’s proof that organisation isn’t about perfection – it’s about ease. About giving your mind space to rest.

You leave feeling lighter. Not just inspired, but quietly reset.

Daylesford Organic, The Cotswolds

Daylesford is a dream for anyone who loves beautiful order. Rows of produce, perfectly stacked ceramics, earthy tones and natural textures – it’s functional, but elevated.

Everything is grouped with intention.
Every display feels calm, not chaotic.
Even the farm shop feels like a lifestyle edit.

It’s the kind of place where you slow down without realising. Where you suddenly want to go home and decant your pantry, line up your jars, and simplify.

This is the same feeling we aim to bring into your home with Shelf Life.

Our jars, bottles and storage pieces aren’t just containers – they’re tools for creating that same sense of calm you feel wandering through Daylesford. They help transform everyday spaces into something more intentional. More beautiful. More you.

Bringing That Feeling Home

You don’t need to travel to Somerset or the Cotswolds to experience this way of living. (Although we strongly suggest you do!)

You can build it into your everyday spaces.

  • A pantry that feels like a farm shop

  • A bathroom that feels like a boutique spa

  • A kitchen shelf that feels curated, not cluttered

Organisation isn’t about control. It’s about creating an environment that supports your life and your wellbeing.

At Shelf Life, our philosophy is simple:
An organised space is a happy place.

These two places remind me why that matters. They show how powerful a calm, ordered environment can be – and how deeply it can affect the way we feel.

January is the perfect time to reset.
To clear space.
To slow down.
And to create a home that feels just as good as your favourite place to visit.
